Sky Blue’s O’Hara among 26-players called to USWNT camp

U.S. Women’s National Team coach Jill Ellis has selected 26-players for the team’s January camp — including Sky Blue FC’s Kelley O’Hara.

The USWNT will open the New Year with a match against Republic of Ireland on January 23 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

“This camp begins the next chapter of this program,” said Ellis. “We’ll have just over two weeks together to begin to build cohesion and integrate the younger players into our processes, and then we will regroup for Olympic qualifying. The leadership and experience of our returning World Cup players will give us a solid starting point on which to build, and we are looking forward to the next challenge.”

Amongst those missing from the team is long-time U.S. captain Christie Rampone who underwent arthroscopic surgery on her left knee before Christmas and will be sidelined four-six weeks. Meanwhile, Megan Rapinoe is rehabbing from her ACL surgery. Forward Amy Rodriguez is pregnant with her second child and will miss most of the action this year.

The USWNT is 10-0-0 against Ireland all time.

The U.S. camp begins this Tuesday at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, California and will go through the 21st. Then, the team will head south for their final match before the 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifiers on February 1oth in Texas.
