With NYCFC’s off-season signings rounding into form, the work of Coach Patrick Vieira work has never looked so good.
After a disappointing loss to Orlando City to start the Major League Soccer season, New York City FC returned to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx for its home opener last weekend.
NYCFC put together a complete performance against D.C. United, winning by 4-0.
With a weekend matchup against the Montreal Impact, NYCFC will be looking for much of the same. Montreal has started slowly in 2017, drawing and losing its first two matches of the season, suggesting that New York will want to take advantage of the Canadian team’s sluggish start.
PROJECTED STARTING XI:
NYCFC: Johnson; Matarrita, Callens, Chanot, Allen; Moralez, Pirlo, Ring, Wallace, Harrison; Villa
Montreal: Bush; Duvall, Cabrera, Ciman, Oyongo; Bernadello, Donadel, Bernier; Oduro, Piatti, Mancosu
Player to Watch: Rodney Wallace. Grabbing both a goal and an assist in NYCFC’s win against D.C. United, the Costa Rican appears to have found his place in Patrick Vieira’s system. A pacey prospect, Wallace is able to get around defenses without a whim, helping take pressure off David Villa.
X-Factor: Ignacio Piatti. The Argentine has the knack to change games in the blink of an eye. Piatti, much like Wallace, picked up a goal and an assist in his side’s 2-2 draw against the Seattle Sounders.
