New York Red Bull II returns to New Jersey to play fourth place Charleston Battery on Saturday afternoon. New York is hoping to extend their 12 game unbeaten streak and take first place before the weekend is out.

Standing in their way is the Charleston Battery who have rebounded this season and put themselves two points out of third place. The veteran club started the season slow but has picked up points in their last five games, making them a dangerous foe and a team that could potentially end New York’s unbeaten streak.

PROJECTED STARTING XI:

New York Red Bull II: Meara; Long, Carroll, Schmoll, Plewa; Metzger, Williams, Valot; Bonomo, Allen, Flemmings

Charleston Battery: Tambakis; Griffith, Meuller, Ferguson, Woodbine, Chang, Portillo, Guerra, Adjetey, Williams, Tsonis

Player to Watch: Florian Valot. The young French player has made an extraordinary impact since arriving to the team. His play on the ball has produced numerous chances and he’s been effective as an assist man off the bench. Given the team’s midweek game, expect him to start or get significant minutes off the bench in this game to showcase his skills.

X-Factor: The heat! This game won’t be played in the friendly confines of Red Bull Arena. Instead, both teams will have to face the 4PM sun at the Red Bull training facility with little cover and an artificial surface. Both teams will need to be prepared for the conditions which could decide the game moreso than usual.

Where to Watch: This game will be streamed on YouTube at 4PM EST.

The Charleston Battery are a team that has gone mostly unnoticed in 2016 but has collected more than a few notable results. Just two weeks ago, the Battery claimed a draw over first place Louisville City FC and has wins over Cincinnati and Wilmington. They are a strong, veteran side that will be looking to exploit the zealous nature of a very confident New York Red Bull II team.

For New York it should be a typical day at the office. They have been organized and lethal in the 4-3-3, collecting points seemingly everywhere they go. Charleston presents a unique threat, but one that John Wolyniec and his team are sure to be ready for.

A win for the home side could see them grab first place — depending of the result between Cincinnati and Louisville.
