USWNT World Cup Progress Report: Takeaways from Australia

The positive news for the USWNT is that they are by no means delusional about the caliber of their performance- they know well that a handful of standout performances saved them from defeat in their Group of Death debut.

“We need to have a better performance,” said Rapinoe, “but in terms of a result, that’s what you want, three points.”

Despite the laundry list of problems to work on in practice, the squad isn’t one that will simply fold under the pressure. The USWNT very clearly wants nothing less than everything- expect to see them emerge improved, determined, and probably rearranged on Friday.

The United States takes on Sweden this Friday, June 12, at 8pm EST (FOX, NBC Universo).
