HARRISON, N.J. – It wasn’t pretty but the Brazilian National Team defeated Costa Rica in a friendly at Red Bull Arena Saturday afternoon by a score of 1-0 in front of an electric crowd of nineteen thousand fans.

The game’s only goal came in the tenth minute when Hulk out-muscled Costa Rican defender and captain Miranda. For the most part, the Brazilians went relatively untested and retained the majority of possession. Costa Rica didn’t register a shot on goal for the entire game and substitutions Joel Campbell and David Guzman did little to help their cause.

The first half saw Brazil being the much more dynamic side, creating chances early and keeping Costa Rica on the back foot. Costa Rican goalkeeper Patrick Pemberton kept the game scoreless early on, saving chances from David Luiz and Hulk. However in the tenth minute, Hulk’s size and strength was the deciding factor, plowing past the Costa Rican defense and scoring the game’s only goal.

The second half was much of the same with Kaka, Coutinho and Neymar joining the action before the final whistle. Kaka provided a bit of a spark for the Brazilian team, specifically when his pass found an open body in front of the net in seventy-third minute. Neymar’s inclusion brought a bit more pace to the left side of the field but Costa Rica’s defense stood tall against an impending onslaught.

Next up the Brazilian Men’s National Team will head up north to Gillette stadium to play the US Men’s National Team on Tuesday.
