Ramos Unveils Roster for FIFA U-20 World Cup

20170303 U20MNT v SLV Final

imgres-1Tab Ramos, the coach of the United States men’s U-20 national team, on Tuesday named the 21 players he will take to South Korea later this month for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

“We excited about being able to provide another great opportunity for our players, playing against best players in their age in the world,” Ramos said. “It’s a great experience. This is the first time we get to travel to a World Cup as champions of our region. Normally we like to play the underdog role, although we go as underdogs to the tournament we still go as champions. I hope this becomes the norm rather than the exception.”

The American team opened the qualifying tournament in March with a loss to Panama, then ran the table with five straight victories to finish first in the CONCACAF qualifying tournament.

“We weren’t great up front in CONCACAF,” Ramos said. “We led the tournament with 81 shots and the second best was something like 60, but we didn’t lead in scoring. We have to get better because we won’t have as many chances” in the World Cup.

The U.S. was drawn into Group F with Ecuador, Senegal and Saudi Arabia. The team opens group play against Ecuador on May 22 (4 a.m. Eastern), followed by matches with Senegal on May 25 (7 a.m. Eastern) and Saudi Arabia on May 28 (5 a.m. Eastern). The first two games will be played at Incheon Stadium in Incheon, while the third and final group game will be played at Daejeon World Cup Stadium in Daejeon. All of the U.S.’s group matches will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1.
