ROCHESTER, NY – New York Red Bulls II lost 2-0 on the road to the USL-leading Rochester Rhinos Sunday afternoon.

Neither team produced many chances in the opening half hour of the match. But the Rhinos grew in control as the half went on, and eventually their pressure paid off.

In the 40th minute, RBNY II defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste was out muscled by Colin Rolfe in his box. The ensuing shot from Tyler Rudy was saved by Santiago Castano, but the rebound fell to Alex Dixon, who did not miss.

The Rhinos subbed keepers at halftime, but neither one had to do much work in their 45 minutes. Rochester outshot New York 11 to two, and neither Red Bulls shot was on target.

The closest the visitors came to a goal was shortly after halftime, when Dan Bedoya cut in from the left wing and fired a shot off the crossbar. That would have been an equalizer at the time.

Johnny Mendoza gave the Rhinos breathing room in the 68th minute. Colin Rolfe put him in behind the defense with a simple pass out wide, and the winger slipped his shot past Castano to make it 2-0. That would be the final score, though the Rhinos continued to create chances as the second half wound down.

The Rhinos are now 4-0-2 on the year, despite playing five of those games on the road. With the loss, Red Bulls II drop to 1-3-2, eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

I wish Rochester made the leap up to NASL.

Lancers indoor team gets a great attendance too, 6,359 average.

Seems a bit humiliating to play reserves teams, Cosmos could do with a instate rival.
