The New York Red Bulls are close to acquiring another striker in RB Salzburg’s Fredrik Gulbrandsen, according to the website Verdens Gang. Gulbrandsen spoke with the site and said he would be traveling to New York on Friday.

The deal appears to be a loan, which would allow Gulbrandsen to return to Salzburg during the summer transfer window. Much like Omer Damari, there will be a way for New York to keep Gulbrandsen if things work out for both. At Salzburg, he made only nine appearances since joining the team in 2016.

Gulbrandsen, 24, was born in Norway and came up through the Lillestrom system. Upon his debut in 2009 he was the youngest first-team player the team had ever had. He made 57 appearances, scoring 7 goals over that stretch. His biggest impact was at Molde between 2013 and 2016. There he scored 19 goals in 42 appearances. He had made three appearances for Norway’s senior national team.

The Red Bulls have yet to address the impending acquisition. It is also believed that the MLS club is looking to secure the services of another defender.
