Real Salt Lake Fires Cassar

Real Salt Lake on Monday fired Jeff Cassar after three games of the 2017 Major League Soccer season.

Cassar was beginning his fourth year in charge of RSL, but club is winless in three games this year after finishing 2016 on a seven-game winless streak. Salt Lake has just one point from their first three matches.

Daryl Shore, who had been RSL’s director of goalkeeping, takes over as interim head coach while the club seeks a full-time replacement. Shore previously was head coach of the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers of the NASL from 2010-13.

RSL went 38-37-30 in regular-season matches under Cassar, reaching the playoffs twice. Both times they were eliminated by Los Angeles, and Saturday’s loss to the Galaxy was Cassar’s final game in charge.
