Red Bull Arena To Host Classic Kearny v. Harrison High School Derby

The New York Red Bulls are giving a nod to local history as they host two of the strongest soccer programs in New Jersey for a unique derby experience. Kearny High School will be taking on cross town rivals Harrison High School on Saturday, October 8th at Red Bull Arena.

“Soccertown U.S.A.,” the nickname for Kearney, has a rich history in the sport dating back to the 1800’s. Likewise, the Kearny High School program is well recognized nationally as a hotbed for soccer talent. Kearny High School’s popularity peaked during the 90’s when three big name alumni started on the U.S. side during the World Cup; Tony Meola, Tab Ramos and John Harkes.

That is not to say the Harrison High School program doesn’t have a rich history of its own. Though they may not have the sexy name graduates that their northern neighbors have, they do beat them out in one vital category: State Championships. In fact, Harrison’s 24 state championships are best in the nation, and their soccer program continues to be the envy of many High Schools across the U.S..

These teams have not met on competitive grounds in over a year, which will make this one a match to watch! And if that wasn’t enough soccer derby action for you to take in, the Girl’s teams will be going head to head as well in this unique double header. Tickets for the matches are set at $5 for adults, and $3 for children. Fans can purchase tickets by contacting (877) RBSOCCER.
