New York Red Bull II returns to the win column with a 5-0 win over Harrisburg City Islanders on Tuesday night. The team’s four goal second half is the most they’ve scored in a half and also the team’s biggest win in USL to date.

Junior Flemmings and Vincent Bezecourt were the difference makers in the game, with two goals and two assists in the second half respectively.

The team’s effort was especially impressive given the quick turnaround from Saturday’s game against Richmond. Still, the first half was forgettable for New York as they absorbed pressure and weren’t able to implement the usual high press we’ve seen in previous games. Harrisburg looked particularly dangerous with Benbow, Barril and Pettis getting dangerous opportunities on the counter. Rafael Diaz, making his fourth start of the season, was up to the task making impressive one-on-one saves to keep the game level.

The team’s defensive strength was rewarded in the 28th minute when Flemmings was fouled in the box and Anatole Abang converted the penalty kick opportunity for the first goal of the game.

New York came out in the second half with all guns blazing, controlling possession and implementing the team’s signature high-press. Dan Metzger doubled the lead in the 64th minute with a fantastic shot from outside the box. From there Junior Flemmings took over on the right side, assisting on both Zoumara Simpara and Vincent Bezecourt’s first USL goals of the season. Bezecourt doubled his goal tally with a great dribbling display and solo effort on goal.

Red Bull II will now have more than a week off with their next game at home against Orlando City B on August 12th. The win breaks the team’s longest stretch without a win (two games) and puts the pressure on Louisville in the coming week to match their form and regain first place.
