New York Red Bulls have announced that Gonzalo Veron and Shaun Wright-Phillips will be loaned down to USL affiliate New York Red Bull II for tomorrow’s game against the Harrisburg City Islanders.

Currently, New York is on a two week break from MLS action and the loan could serve to keep Veron and Wright-Phillips in match shape heading into next week’s US Open Cup clash against the Rochester Rhinos.

Veron is still serving a suspension for his red card foul in last week’s game against Toronto FC. Veron has had a tempestuous campaign plagued with injuries and rash challenges. A loan down to Red Bull II could serve as a bit of a refresher as the team hopes to get him match-fit and ready for MLS play once his suspension is over.

Shaun Wright-Phillips, older brother of Bradley Wright-Phillips, has only made 17 appearances for New York Red Bulls but may have a major role to play with US Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League fixtures approaching in the summer. This will also mark his first appearance with the USL side.

These loans from the MLS team are nothing new as this season Anatole Abang, Gideon Baah, Alex Muyl and Justin Bilyeu have all made appearances for both the USL and MLS team. Abang has three USL goals this season and is tied for second in the team with goals scored. Last week, Gideon Baah played a fantastic ball over the top to Brandon Allen for the game winning goal and Alex Muyl has also found the scoresheet in previous appearances. Of late, New York has prided itself on the synergy between its MLS and USL teams with these loans being yet another example of the communication between the two sides.

New York Red Bull II will be playing the Harrisburg City Islanders on Thursday night at Red Bull Arena. The game will air on YouTube at 7:00 p.m.
