Red Bulls absent from MLS Re-Entry Draft; Keel finds new home

rbnylogoThe second phase of the MLS Re-Entry draft was delayed a few minutes while members of the Chicago Fire and the New York Red Bulls joined the conference call.

The Fire showed. The Red Bulls never did.

In the end, it was an active day for most every club in the league as 14 of the 48 available players listed were selected, while some surprising names were left to the devices of free agency. The L.A. Galaxy scored perhaps the best haul of the evening, bringing both Colin Clarke and Will Hesmer aboard for the coming season. The Philadelphia Union also managed to strengthen their forward corps. with the acquisition of Connor Casey. The New England Revolution added to their depth by taking Chad Barrett and Hunter Freeman while veteran American defender Danny Califf found himself North of the border with Toronto F.C.

Respected veteran names are available if the Red Bulls so choose to pursue them. Juan Pablo Angel, Kevin Hartman, Ramiro Corrales and Julian de Guzman headline the remaining 34 players that are free to move this offseason. New York may choose to take this wait and see approach instead of dedicating themselves to any moves now.

As for the team’s castoffs, Stephen Keel managed to find a home with F.C. Dallas but local boy Bill Gaudette fell short of finding a new team.
