The New York Red Bulls have acquired right back Michael Amir Murillo on loan, as reported in early February, from the Panamanian club San Francisco FC. The loan is for one year and the club expects Murillo to fill one of its last remaining defensive gaps.

“Michael is a player that we identified with our scouting network and watched closely,” Coach Jesse Marsch said. “He fits the way we want to play and will be a good addition to our group.”

Murillo, 21, is a product of the San Francisco youth academy and has played on the first team since 2014. Since then he has made 42 appearances for the club in the Liga Panamena de Fútbol, scoring three goals.

“I went down to see Michael play in person with our head scout Rob Elliot and we were impressed,” assistant coach Dennis Hamlett said. “After watching him play and speaking with him, we believe that Michael fits our club philosophy and we are glad to add him to our team in 2017.”
