The New York Red Bulls’ collapse against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday culminated with a questionable red card call on defender Aurelien Collin.

Now, the Red Bulls are seeking justice.

EoS has learned that the Red Bulls have appealed the red card decision on Collin by referee Fotis Bazakos.

Collin was called on a red card after a perplexing sequence of events. Down 2-1 in the 90th minute, RSL speedster Joao Plata rushed the left side of the area, evading an ugly tackle from Sean Davis before making his way into the box and enduring a Collin slide tackle from behind. The challenge earned Collin a red card, but no penalty was awarded. As it turns out, Collin was hit with a straight red card after Davis was called for a foul outside of the box, stopping play. That saved New York from an embarrassing PK situation in added time.

However, replays of the tackle show that Collin won the ball cleanly. That has encouraged the Red Bulls to take their case to the league.

Judgment from the MLS Disciplinary Committee could come as early as Friday afternoon. As of now, no decision has been made on the red card call.

Here is the tackle in question:
