Major League Soccer has named New York Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips the Etihad Player of the Month. After a month that featured six goals by the Englishman, Wright-Phillips currently is tied for the league lead in goals with eight.

BWP capped off a tremendous May with a hat trick in a 3-0 victory against Toronto FC on Saturday. He started off the month by scoring the only goal in a 1-1 draw with Orlando City SC and added two more tallies in the Hudson River Derby at Yankee Stadium.

Along with Wright-Phillips’ uptick in production, New York improved to 4-0-1 when the Englishman scores a goal or tallies an assist. Led by BWP, the Red Bulls overcame a weak start to the season, finishing out May with a 6-7-1 record. New York currently sits in second place in the Eastern Conference with 19 points.

The Red Bulls return from the Copa America break on June 15th as New York travels to Rochester to open their US Open Cup schedule against the Rhinos of USL. New York resumes their MLS schedule on June 19th, when they face the Seattle Sounders at Red Bull Arena.
