The highly anticipated game between the New York Red Bulls and Sacramento Republic has been canceled due to the conditions at Bonney Field.

Inclement weather has beaten down the home of one of USL’s most popular teams, forcing the club’s hand.

“When it rains, it pours,” said Republic FC president Warren Smith. “As much as we need the rainfall in California, there was too much of a good thing for us this week. We want to Thank the New York Red Bulls for understanding the situation and everyone’s concerns for the players’ safety on the pitch. We’ve already begun planning for a substitute friendly to add to our schedule during the drier and warmer weather.”

New York will remain in Arizona where they will resume preseason preparations against crosstown rival NYCFC on February 15th. That game will kick-off the team’s participation in the Desert Diamond Cup just one week shy of their Champions League opener against the Vancouver Whitecaps in Harrison, N.J. It is expected that Bradley Wright-Phillips, Sacha Kljestan and Luis Robles will be available for the games as preparations ramp up.
