New York Red Bull II striker Stefano Bonomo has received a four game suspension for his late game red card against Charleston Battery this past Saturday.

The incident happened deep into the 11th minutes of stoppage time when a a throw-in turned ugly. Bonomo, frustrated with the Battery defending, turned and punched Neveal Hackshaw in the face. The incident was in the view of the referee who immediately stopped the play and showed Bonomo the red card that ended his day.

The suspension will have Bonomo missing four key games for the team including the rematch against Louisville City FC on August 19th at Red bull Arena. This season, Bonomo has improved on his form from 2015 with four goals and one assist in 15 games played.

New York is not without the fire power to replace him as players like Zoumana Simpara and Florian Valot have been scratching at the door for a spot in the starting line up. New York’s next game will be this Saturday away at the Richmond Kickers.
