After dropping points on the road and at home, the New York Red Bulls head into Wednesday night’s match vs Orlando City SC desperately in need of three points.

“Right now all these Eastern Conference foes are six-point matches. Your season can start to slip away from you on the table if you’re not able to capitalize – especially with games at home,” Marsch said after training on Tuesday. “The difference between losing three points and gaining three points in this is big on the table. We have to make sure that we come away with the result that we need.”

Midfielder Felipe Martins agreed with his coach. “At this point in the season every game counts a lot. This is just another game that counts a lot for us, and we definitely need three points.”

Captain Dax McCarty put the match into perspective. “We were on the road for a really long time and we did not handle that well. Now we have a couple of games at home – a disappointing result against Portland, but we have some positive things to take from it. Now we go into this game against Orlando knowing that anything less than three points is unacceptable.”

“We’re excited about the challenge,” McCarty continued. “The East is really tight right now, so it’s exciting for us to get to this point in the season and having it all to play for still.”

Tomorrow night’s challenge, as Dax puts it, will come in the form of an Orlando team that has managed only two wins since April. Also of note, the legendary Kaka is unlikely to play in the match. However, Marsch is preparing his club for whatever they might see.

“Obviously Kaka is an important piece for them, but even without him they are still dynamic in attack,” Marsch notes. “It’s going to be important for them to limit the amount of times Cyle Larin, Brek Shea, and Kevin Molino can get out on the run and attack in transition.

“It will be a big task on the day. They’ve caused us troubles, so I think they’ll come with a similar game plan even under a new coach. We’ll be prepared for them in a lot of different ways.”
