Red Bulls release preseason roster, Robbie Findley on trial

The first round of preseason training is underway for the New York Red Bulls — and they are joined by a pair of unfamiliar faces.

Among the gathering of senior team, USL, draft and academy products in Arizona, the Red Bulls also welcome former U.S. Men’s National Team striker Robbie Findley and David Somma to the camp as their first trialists of the season.

Findley, 31, is a former member of Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC, but most recently featured for the now-defunct Rayo OKC of the North American Soccer League where he logged 22 appearances, scoring four goals. Findley has earned 11 caps with the national team. He also scored 12 goals in 27 matches for RSL in 2009, his best year as a professional.

Davide Somme, 31, is a midfielder who has not played professionally since 2013. The South African winger featured for San Jose Earthquakes in 2008 and 2009 before heading to Europe where he played for, among others, Leeds United.

Luis Robles and Sacha Kljestan are not in camp due to international duty. Gideon Baah is out as he continues his rehab process, while Bradley Wright-Phillips has stayed home, expecting his third child in any day. Junior Flemmings was expected with the team, but he also did not travel to rehabilitate his injury.

In total, the camp roster includes 19 players on MLS contracts, five players on USL contracts, three 2017 MLS SuperDraft picks and two trialists.
