New York Red Bulls have strengthened their back line by signing 18-year-old Cameroonian center back Hassan Ndam from Rainbow FC Bamenda.

The signing adds depth in a position that has been notoriously troublesome for the team.

“We are pleased to add Hassan,” said Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch. “He has great physical attributes and a good sense of the game. He is young, but we think he shows promise.”

Ndam has been standout on the Cameroonian U17 national team and has made appearances for the U20 side as well. At only 18-years of age, Ndam will certainly be a work in progress and could see more minutes with New York Red Bull II than the senior team.

New York fans shouldn’t be too unfamiliar with Ndam. The young defender trialed with the Red Bulls last year, and was at one point the infamous “mystery trialist” Marsch alluded to during several practices last season. Fans should be familiar with Ndam’s previous team, Rainbow FC, as well with Anatole Abang and Ambroise Oyongo coming through the same pipeline.
