When shown his picture playing the Robin Thicke role with Miley Cyrus, however, the Arsenal legend let out an audible “Oh, wow” before quickly retreating to the locker room with a hearty laugh.
Like Tim Tebow and “Tebowing” before him, Henry has become the subject of Photoshop fodder thanks to his recent goal scoring “celebration” dubbed “Henrying.” If you have been following along with the Red Bulls recent winning streak, you know the one; ball heads to the back of the net, Henry takes a stroll to the nearest post, leans, takes a breathe, and poses as if to say “Oh, this again.”
Well, that infamous pose has started a firestorm on Twitter with Henry being superimposed on everything from historical moments to famous movie scenes.
If you thought the phenomenon escaped Henry, it hasn’t. His teammates made sure of that.
“This morning ya, the guys showed me some of the pictures,” Henry said with a chuckle. “It’s kind of funny at the end of the day.”
Known for his unpredictable temperament, Henry’s demure celebration has been the cause of great debate the past few weeks, particularly following his spat with head coach Mike Petke.
“There is nothing behind the celebration,” he insists. “I know you guys were laughing about it, but it’s true. I needed a rest. I stopped there, saw the post in Houston, twice, saw the post the other day, was basically by it, so I stopped by it and now everyone is doing stuff in internet with it.”
While some of the Photoshop work has clearly put him in compromising positions, the Arsenal legend takes it all in stride.
“I am happy, pleased,” he said. “It’s funny. I didn’t see all of them. I saw a couple of them. But I mean it’s funny overall. That’s how I would put it.”
Here are some of the better offerings.
