Reno 1868 FC has announced a two-year partnership with the San Jose Earthquakes effectively becoming the USL affiliate team to the MLS side starting in 2017.

“We are thrilled to join sides with one of the charter members of MLS in San Jose,” said Reno president Eric Edelstein. “We look forward to seeing talented players from the first team and seeing the next generation of Earthquakes players, while also having our fan base learn and grow from the Quakes’ passionate supporters.”

The agreement between 1868 FC and the Earthquakes will see an end to the affiliation with the Sacramento Republic which started in 2015. The two teams had entered into an agreement and now that it is coming to an end, San Jose has decided to move forward with the new Reno side.

“On behalf of Sacramento Republic FC, it has been our honor to partner with the San Jose Earthquakes these past season and see the likes of Adam (Jahn), Tommy (Thompson), Mack (Sherrod) and more play on our squad,” said Republic FC president Warren Smith. “I want to personally thank Dave Kaval, John Doyle and Dominic Kinnear for their remarkable support in helping us build our roster, mentor us during our journey as a young club and be an example of professionalism for SRFC to shoot for.”

This affiliation deal is the next step in Reno 1868 FC nearing its long awaited first kick in 2017. Recently the team unveiled its logo and uniforms to the public while also hosting a pair of games in the teams future home Greater Nevada Field.
