Rumors and reports have the Chicago Fire chasing Manchester United’s Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Schweinsteiger, 32, made his name playing for Bayern Munich and the German national team. He’s both a World Cup and the Champions League winner. Schweinsteiger has left both in the last year, leaving Munich for Manchester and retiring from international play.

The central midfielder is on the outs with United manager Jose Mourinho. The Fire have reportedly offered him a three year contract worth more than $15 million. He met with Fire coach Veljko Paunovic earlier this month.

Though the Fire are infamously frugal when it comes to designated players, this is not the first expensive name they’ve been linked to. They lost out on Didier Drogba in 2015 and Jermaine Jones the year before that.

Schweinsteiger would presumably be a boost to a team that has struggled both on and off the field in recent years. He has been a fixture at Bayern, appearing in 342 games and scoring 45 goals over 14 seasons in Germany.
