Report: Cosmos Close to Loan for DC United’s Andrea Mancini

According to a report from Big Apple Soccer, the New York Cosmos are imminently close to securing Andrea Mancini on loan from Major League Soccer’s DC United for the rest of the North American Soccer League Season.

The attacker — who would take up the club’s last remaining international roster spot — has been spotted at Cosmos training sessions over the past month, but it looks as if a loan deal could finally be done in time for Mancini to be available for Saturday’s away match against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

Mancini, 24, signed with the MLS club in March after trialing in their preseason camp in Florida. The midfielder/forward has yet to feature in any competitive matches for the club, though.

The attacker is the son of Inter Milan head coach Roberto Mancini and came up in that club’s youth system before moving on to Manchester City’s academy.

Breaking into the professional ranks has been slow going for Mancini, with only a few appearances for Real Valladolid’s reserve team and Hungarian clubs Budapest Hunvéd and Szombathely under his belt so far.

If the paperwork goes through, Mancini would enter the first team at a time when the club is in need of depth. Winger Yohandry Orozco is close to a recovery from his groin injury, but attackers Andres Flores and Yasmani Duk are away with their respective national teams for World Cup games this week.

Not expecting great things here. His track record is underwhelming. A warm body on the bench and hopefully useful back-up if needed.

Breaking news Jake, Mancini left Inter about 3 weeks ago.

I’m totally surprised Ronaldinho has not been sign by an nasl team like Tampa, Miami, or cosmos. All he has to do is play 60 to 70 min and switch the ball from side to side. Plus it’s a short season, cmon nasl make it happen.
