Report: Manchester City set for U.S. friendly vs. New York City FC in May

Synergy.  It is a popular word in New York soccer circles these days, and New York City FC have certainly helped to define it.

This latest bit of corroboration comes from NYCFC and Manchester City, who plan to face each other in a high profile friendly shortly after the end of the Premier League season.

According to the UK’s Telegraph, NYCFC are set to host their parent club, Manchester City, this May.  The report offered no details on specific venues or dates.

Under scrutiny, May seems a dubious date.  Manchester City round out the Premier League season with a May 24th showdown against Southampton at the Etihad.  New York City FC host the Houston Dynamo at Yankee Stadium on the 30th.

With City setting their eyes on an Australian training camp in July, June would seem the more obvious choice for a friendly date.  NYCFC are booked with matches for each weekend of the month.  With the New York Yankees season in full swing, the only days available are Tuesday, June 2nd and Tuesday, June 30th.  These would be the only times accommodating both teams time to convert the soccer field back to baseball.

If June is not the month, NYCFC have a break between July 4th and July 12th.  Once again, when comparing the schedules of both NYCFC and the Yankees, the only conceivable date available to accommodate both is Friday, July 10th; two days before NYCFC host Toronto FC.
