NYCFC Facey

After months of promises that Manchester City would feed loanees to their roster, New York City FC look set to introduce the first such player.

According to the New York Daily News, Shay Facey, 21, has agreed on a six month loan with NYCFC.

“First and foremost, I like Shay’s spirit, his mentality, he’s a real competitor,” NYCFC coach Jason Kreis told the News. “I think he’s very hungry to be a part of what’s going on here. I think he’s very hungry to move his professional career forward.”

The 5’10” center back is a Manchester City youth product and an England U-20 player.  He has a strong pedigree, featuring as captain of the City youth side.

The loan deal will bring Facey to the start of the Premier League season where Manchester City may elect to recall their young defender.

Currently, New York City seem set to start Ecuadorian defender Andres Mendoza at center back.  His partner will come from a pool which includes MLS veteran Jason Hernandez, injured former FC Dallas All-Star George John and Real Salt Lake product Kwame Watson-Siriboe.

New York City open their season against Orlando City before their inaugural home match at Yankee Stadium on March 15th against the 2014 Eastern Conference Champion New England Revolution.
