Niko Kranjcar’s days with the New York Cosmos may be coming to an end.

Following statements from the midfielder’s family in recent weeks that the he was keen for a move back to Europe, Kranjcar’s lawyer Emil Zgur  has intimated that a move to Rangers in Scotland could be imminent. According to Zgur, the Croatian international is flying to Glasgow this week for a medical to possibly lock up a two-year offer from the Scottish club.

Zgur told BBC Scotland that his client was looking for a “fresh challenge” and that Scotland was the best option available to the attacking midfielder at the moment.

“[Kranjcar] had offers from the Far East and the Middle East, but he wants to test himself again. He wants to show that he is fit enough. Everything depends on the medical.”

The move to Rangers would be on a free transfer, as Kranjcar’s deal with the Cosmos only ran through the NASL Spring Season. The 31-year-old was only to make seven appearances in the short 10-game competition, with early fitness issues and a groin injury in the final weeks limiting his availability.

If cosmos would have been in MLS, would he have left. I don’t think so…… Cosmos need a reality check.
No real home stadium, d2 league, fans departing, team faith going down.

If Cosmos were in #bushLEAGUEmls he would have never signed with them at all.

Right because he isn’t good enough to play in MLS. That’s why he’s signing for a team in a league worse than MLS even after “proving” himself in the minors. I hope he doesn’t go into shock after seeing 50k+ at Ibrox after all these games at the lacrosse stadium.

Rangers would run riot in MLS.

By the way, big ups for the MLS guys leading the line last night against proper players. They almost got a shot on goal but it wasn’t quite to be. Maybe next time?

So I take it you’re not american then? Rooting for the Argies?

          • slowleftarm

Rangers would be a mid-table MLS side at best. Give me a break. Those scrubs took two seasons to even win promotion back to the SPL.

I suppose Cosmosfan thinks NASL players would have done better last night?

As exciting as playing on an astroturf lacrosse field in front of 3,000 in Hempstead must have been for Kranjcar, I think he will be alot happier playing in front of 50,000 at Ibrox.

The Cosmos were a chance to get fit for him.
