The summer transfer window may be closed, but New York City FC continues to be connected to high profile players.

As reported by Spain’s ‘El Desmarque,’ NYCFC and the LA Galaxy are said to be eyeing a move for Athletic Club Bilboa’s Aritz Aduriz.

Aduriz, 34, is one of Spain’s most prolific strikers, and a beloved figure at Bilbao. He has featured 10 times for the non-FIFA sanctioned Basque Country, and once for Spain. In six league matches this season, he has scored three goals for his club. Overall, he has featured for Bilbao, Valencia, Mallorca and Valladolid, scoring 141 goals in 396 matches. Since rejoining Bilbao in 2012, Aduriz has scored 51 goals in 102 league appearances. His salary was a reported €2.5 million.

Andoni Iraola was a teammate of Aduriz at Bilbao. In an interesting turn, Aduriz and Roberto Soldado came to Valencia in the 2009-10 campaign, replacing outgoing striker — David Villa.

The LA Galaxy have a plethora of attacking options at their disposal. From Robbie Keane and Giovani dos Santos to youngsters Gyasi Zardes and Bradford Jamieson IV, the team does seem stacked with talent for the present — and future.

NYCFC, however, could use more attacking power — particularly from a familiar Spanish international to compliment Villa.Away from Villa, NYCFC count on Patrick Mullins, Khiry Shelton and the injured Tony Taylor. Slovakian forward Adam Nemec was released after an ineffectual start to the season. A striker partner for Villa would also allow for a return of Jason Kreis‘ diamond midfield, which relies on a solid forward tandem to lead the top line.
