Reports: Hope Solo to Rejoin the US Women’s National Team

Staff Writer

It looks like Hope Solo is a keeper.

Reports are flying that the 33-year-old veteran goalkeeper will return to the US Women’s National Team after serving her 30-day suspension and complying with all corresponding conditions. Should these sources prove correct, Solo will officially rejoin the team on Saturday, as the USWNT departs to Portugal in order to face off against Norway in the Algarve Cup on March 4th.

The exact conditions surrounding her suspension have not been made public, but the suspension itself was in response to an incident in which Solo’s husband received a DUI while driving a US Soccer team van — with Solo riding in the passenger seat. The suspension surrounding this incident came just as June 2014 domestic abuse charges against Solo were dropped.

While Solo was suspended, keeper Ashlyn Harris served in goal for both a loss to France and a subsequent victory over England. Should Solo in fact return, it is likely that Harris will return to the backup goalkeeper slot.

Hope Solo still must meet with Coach Jill Ellis as well as other US Soccer officials before she rejoins the squad, but it appears she will be back on the team before Saturday.
