Sacha Kljestan has been awarded his 20th assist of the season following a review on the team’s second goal in Philadelphia, putting him into second place for single season assists.

Kljestan also becomes only the second player (next to Carlos Valderrama) to have 20 or more assists in a single season.

The confusion on the statistics came after a ball played by Kljestan touched the foot of a Union player before being knocked into the net. It appeared as if Kljestan would fall short of the 20 assist mark but after revision by the league, they awarded both he and Dax McCarty with an assist in the game.

Kljestan had a fantastic season with New York, not only breaking records for the team and league, but also returning to the US Men’s National team late in the summer. Kljestan played in 32 of 34 games this season and scored six goals on top of his 20 assists. He and the team now look forward to the MLS Cup Playoffs, where they hope to break a new record by adding the team’s first MLS Cup to the trophy case.
