Rumor Killer: NYCFC NOT targeting Ben Arfa

NYCFC no Ben Arfa

If Hatem Ben Arfa is looking to revitalize his career, it won’t be with New York City FC.

According to a team spokesman, Ben Arfa is not in the club’s plans.

Respected French outlet L’Equipe reported Thursday morning NYCFC’s interest in the wayward midfielder.  Ben Arfa, 27, is currently a man without club after mutually agreeing to nix his deal with Nice.  This, following a season long absence from the club for violation of FIFA’s club rules, prohibiting players from claiming three clubs in a single season.  That final judgement puts a bow on nearly 18 months of poor fortune that saw the French player benched and excommunicated to Hull City where he failed to make an impact, leading him to Ligue 1 and Nice.

Driven by a need for minutes, Ben Arfa was reportedly weighing up a move to MLS with NYCFC officials, but out source claims no such event ever took place.

NYCFC have wrapped up their Jacksonville preseason preparation. They are now headed to Manchester City where they will continue their preseason preparation at the new City Football Academy. Matches are planned against Scotland’s St. Mirren and Brondby of the Danish Superliga.
