NEW YORK – International friendlies are right around the corner, and New York City FC is experiencing their first call-ups in team history.

Firecracker forward Khiry Shelton and starting striker Adam Nemec have been called into their respective national teams.

Shelton, 21, joins the U.S. Men’s U-23 national team for their coming training camp in Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina as they prepare for their 2016 Olympic qualifiers.  The camp, scheduled from March 23-26, rounds out with a match against Denmark on Tuesday, March 31st.

Nemec, 29, was also bestowed with a national team call-up from his native Slovakia as they prepare for their EURO 2016 qualifier against Luxembourg on Friday in Žilina, Slovakia.  Nemec, who has two goals and fourteen caps with the national team, joined NYCFC in early February, becoming the go-to partner for David Villa in the New York City offense. Currently, Slovakia top the EURO 2016 Qualifying Group C with a perfect 4-0-0 record (12 points).

Both men are expected to miss NYCFC’s next match against a tough Sporting KC side at Yankee Stadium, opening the possibility for youngsters like Tony Taylor and Patrick Mullins to enter the fray.
