New York Red Bull II extended their winning streak to six games with a 2-0 win over Bethlehem Steel FC at Lehigh Valley on Sunday afternoon. The win was also their 15th straight shut out of the season.

Goals on either side of the halves by Brandon Allen and Derrick Etienne Jr. solidify New York’s lead in the Eastern Conference and builds momentum heading into the playoffs at the end of the month.

The first half was a dominating performance by New York Red Bull II. They were physical and forced fouls to frustrate Steel FC from the opening kick. Despite their impressive form, New York didn’t have strong opportunities on goal. It wasn’t until the 30th minute that a corner kick opportunity produced the game’s first tally. Bolu Akinyode was a bit too physical with Dan Metzger forcing the referee to award a penalty kick. Brandon Allen converted for his 13th goal of the season.

The second half saw Bethlehem Steel FC make a valiant attempt at equalizing the game. McChambers, who came on for Gisse at the half, added some pace and forced New York onto the back foot. It didn’t last long, though, as NYRB II eventually took control of the game again and nearly doubled the lead in the 64th minute with Vincent Bezecourt’s opportunity. New York finally sealed the game away with a goal from Derrick Etienne Jr. in the 90th minute. That is Etienne’s fourth of the season

Konrad Plewa also made his return to the field following a stroke suffered on August 8. He played just under 30 minutes but looked strong as he has made a speedy recovery from a shocking situation.

Next up for New York Red Bull II is an away game against lowly Harrisburg. They play on Wednesday as New York looks to continue their shut out record which currently stands at four straight games.
