Sky Blue cuts three trialists; O’Hara leaves for national team camp

With two pre-season victories under their belts and a little more than two weeks before they open the season, Sky Blue FC’s roster is becoming slightly clearer.

The club parted ways with three free agents — midfielders Nicole Baxter and Hayley Katkowski, along with goalkeeper Brittany Anghel.  All three were non-roster invitees.

Kelley O’Hara also left camp to prepare for a pair of international friendlies between the United States and Colombia on April 6 in Hartford and April 10 in Philadelphia.  This week should see the arrival of first-round draft pick Raquel Rodriguez. In coming weeks, Australian international Caitlin Foord and Sam Kerr are expected. Kerr is still recovering from an injury suffered last fall in Australia’s W-League.

“We are very pleased with the progress that we have made during the early weeks of the preseason,” said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. “We have established a firm foundation as we continue to build towards our season opener on April 17. We have seen a lot of improvement, both individually and as a team, and that is something that gives us a great deal of confidence as we approach the regular season.”

Sky Blue opens the season at Seattle on April 17. They return home on April 24 to host the Washington Spirit in one of four matches between the two teams. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at Yurcak Field.
