Sky Blue extend options on 16 players for 2017 NWSL season

The good news for Sky Blue FC fans is that most of the familiar faces from this past summer will be back next summer.

Sky Blue extended options to goalkeepers Caroline Casey and Caroline Stanley; defenders Kristin Grubka, Erin Simon and Erica Skroski; midfielders Kelly Conheeney, Sarah Killion, Taylor Lytle, Raquel Rodriguez and Nikki Stanton; and forwards Kim DeCesare, Leah Galton, Maya Hayes, Tasha Kai, Danielle Schulmann and Catherine Zimmerman.

Sky Blue FC is also finalizing a new contract with forward Sam Kerr, while defenders Kelley O’Hara and Christie Rampone remain on the club’s roster as Federation Players.

Sky Blue FC defender CoCo Goodson and midfielder Shawna Gordon have indicated to the club that they will be retiring. Goodson’s retirement is the second in three years. She retired in 2015 but came out of retirement for the 2016 season. She played eight minutes this year.

No Sky Blue FC players were sent to the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) re-entry wire. Thirteen players from around the league were put on this list. Teams have until Oct. 20 to claim them
