Sky Blue Opens in Seattle; Hosts KC in Home Opener

The National Women’s Soccer League unveiled a slate of home openers on Tuesday, with the full schedule to come.

Sky Blue will open its season at Seattle for the second straight year, playing the Reign, the two-time NWSL Shield winners, on April 15 (10 p.m., Eastern). In Week 2, the Boston Breakers will host Sky Blue (April 23, 6 p.m.).

Sky Blue’s home opener will be on April 30 at 6 p.m. against Kansas City at Rutgers University’s Yurcak Field.

“We are really excited to confirm the date of our home opener,” Sky Blue Coach Christy Holly said. “This is a timely reminder that the new season is right around the corner.”

Each of the league’s teams will play 24 games in 2017, up from 20 games the past two seasons, with each of the 10 clubs playing 12 home and 12 road games.

Through the partnership with A&E Networks, Lifetime will carry an NWSL game every Saturday. A 30-minute pregame show will precede each televised game.

In the debut game on Lifetime, Portland, the 2016 NWSL Shield winners, will host the Orlando Pride at Providence Park at 3 p.m. Eastern. The full TV schedule will be released at a later date, as will the league’s complete schedule.
