Some matches are meant to be tied.

Trading equal amounts of chances on the night, Sky Blue FC played to a scoreless draw against the Seattle Reign FC at Yurcak Field on Sunday.

“We had a much better level of consistency throughout this entire performance,” said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. “However, we are not content and will never settle for one point. Day by day and week by week, we continue to play much better, and that is a credit to everyone within our roster. We have developed a great cohesion amongst the group, and we know that we will begin to be rewarded with three points as we progress forward.”

Sky Blue nearly went up on the 12th minute, with Taylor Lytle ripping a left footed shot off the crossbar. On the rebound, Lyle’s stop was denied by Reign keeper, Hope Solo. Seattle returned the favor five minutes later with Jessica Fishlock smacking the crossbar, but the Sky Blue defenders managed to clear the ball from danger.

After a tight and contentious first half, Sky Blue once again challenged in the second. Leah Galton created space, challenging Solo with a shot that forced the USWNT veteran to dive for the save. Galton continued to lead the charge for Sky Blue, but could not find a way past Solo or the Seattle backline.

“We are a bit disappointed that we did not come away with the win, to be honest,” Galton remarked. “We played the best tonight that we have so far this season, and it really seems like our team chemistry is getting where we want it to be. Since arriving to the team, I have been figuring out how certain players like to play, and we have been working really hard every day to make sure we are all on the same page. It feels like everything is really starting to come together for us.”

Seattle (3-3-3, 12 points) maintain a two point advantage over Sky Blue (2-3-4, 10 points)  in the standings. Sky Blue head on the road this week to face the Washington Spirit.
