Sky Blue signs Brazilian midfielder Thasia



Her full given name is Thaisa de Moraes Rosa Moreno.  But you can simply call her Thaisa. And the newest midfielder for Sky Blue.

Sky Blue signed the Brazilian today, pending her paperwork, and could give the New Jersey squad a full international flavor in the midfield next summer when  National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) kicks of the 2018 season.

Thaisa will join a line that could include an American (Sarah Killion), a Costa Rican (Raquel Rodriguez) and an Englishwoman (Leah Galton).

The Brazlian brings both FIFA Women’s World Cup and Olympic experience to Sky Blue, providing the New Jersey club with an accomplished player who has proven success on the world stage.

“Thaisa is a distinguished international with outstanding ability on both sides of the ball,” said Denise Reddy, Sky Blue coach. “Her experience and expertise as a midfield motor will be a huge addition to our roster.”

The 28-year-old midfielder has 48 appearances with Brazil’s national team, scoring four goals.  She played in the 2015 Women’s World Cup and also played n the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio.

Thaisa is no stranger to the United States. She played college soccer in this country, first at Feather River College in California and finishing at Florida International University in Miami. She played in Brazil’s domestic league for three years before moving to Sweden’s Tyreso where she played with fellow countrywoman Marta as well as United States international Meghan Klingenberg, Christen Press and Whitney Engen.

She has since returned to Brazil for two years and Iceland in 2017.
