U.S. Soccer has “no plans” for USWNT match at Yankee Stadium

Don’t believe everything that you read.

That is the message from U.S. Soccer regarding a reported U.S. Women’s National Team clash against England at Yankee Stadium.

“We have no plans for a Women’s National Team match at Yankee Stadium,” a U.S. Soccer spokesperson told EoS this morning.

The New York Post originally reported a November USWNT, England encounter at Yankee Stadium, citing U.S. Soccer sources on their story. The supposed match would be part of a yet-to-be-finalized USWNT victory tour, starting with an August double against Costa Rica, followed by a two against Australia in September.

The Women’s return to the New York area makes sense. After all, the World Cup Champions drew tens of thousands of fans earlier this month for their ticker tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes in downtown New York City and their history making 25.4 million viewers on Fox has also served to demonstrate the popularity of the team and the sport nationwide.

Yankee Stadium, however, won’t be a part of their ten-game victory celebration.

Other venues surrounding the New York area may still be in play.
