The offseason purge continues.

New York City FC will decline its option to purchase midfielder Javier Calle, Empire of Soccer has learned.

According to sources, NYCFC are too close to the salary cap to afford the costs of purchasing Calle’s contract. The Colombian midfielder had been on-loan from Independiente Medellín but struggled with injuries throughout the season only playing 542 minutes this season. He played a total of 11 games, scoring a single goal.

Calle’s contract with Independiente Medellín expires at the end of the year and he is said to be looking at clubs in Mexico, Brazil and Spain. Rumors have swirled over a possible purchase number, but EoS could not secure that amount at the time of this report.

Calle is the second player to leave NYCFC this offseason following goalkeeper Ryan Meara, whose intraleague loan expired. He is now back with the New York Red Bulls and training with the club. However, he will not be available for postseason play.

Calle was an awful player, slow, not athletic and horrible ball control. Whomever scouted calle and suggested NYCFC sign him should be fired as well.

Now lets hope they let Mena go his also an awful player.
