Sources: Cosmos, Stabæk striker Mads Stokkelien in talks

The New York Cosmos continue to look for reinforcements on their front line and that search has led them to Bob Bradley’s doorstep.

Sources with knowledge of the negotiations tell EOS the Cosmos are in talks with 23-year-old Norwegian striker Mads Stokkelien of Stabæk. Both parties are set to meet this week.

Stokkelien was a vital part of Stabæk’s ascension from the Adeccoligaen to the first-flight Tippeligaen. The young striker led his team with 17 goals in 30 matches, falling second in the Adeccoligaen Golden Boot race. Overall, he scored 22 goals in 33 matches last season.

His career accomplishments do not stop there. Stokkelien has played the majority of his time in top flight Tippeligaen action for both IK Start and Stabæk. He also has international experience, appearing 13 times for the Norwegian U-21 side

Stokkelien featured for Stabæk last Tuesday in a friendly loss against Ullensaker/Kisa IL. Stabæk are said to still be in the race for the young striker. Still, there is mutual interest from both the Cosmos and Stokkelien to get a deal done. The Norwegian striker would be the second major offensive addition to the club this winter with the Cosmos acquiring Dutch striker Hans Dennisen from the Scorpions last month.

According to Norwegian website Budstikka
, Stabaek CEO Lars Hjorth is aware of Cosmos interest.
