Spain release provisional roster ahead of Yankee Stadium match v. Ireland



BRONX, N.Y. – Spanish national team coach Vicente del Bosque has announced a preliminary roster for his team’s match on Tuesday, June 11 vs. Ireland at Yankee Stadium.

Of the 26 players provisionally named to the Spanish squad listed below, 23 will make the trip to Yankee Stadium for the friendly, which will serve as preparation for Spain’s opening match in the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil just five days later.

The provisional roster includes 19 players that were part of Spain’s 2010 FIFA World Cup-winning team in South Africa and 20 who won the 2012 UEFA European Championship in Poland and the Ukraine. The squad also features 14 players from FC Barcelona (9) and Real Madrid (5).

Spain is ranked No. 1 in the world by FIFA, having won the most recent FIFA World Cup in 2010 and each of the last two UEFA European Championships in 2008 and 2012. They are undefeated in their last 20 overall matches dating back to November 15, 2011, notching 16 wins and four draws over the span.
