Major League Soccer’s all-stars defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado on Wednesday night.

Despite a good start from Tottenham, MLS took the lead in the 20th minute thanks to a Kaka penalty kick. Nacer Chadli was called for handling a corner kick in the box, and Kaka beat Michel Vorm.

Spurs nearly equalized right away. Harry Kane got on the end of a cross just four yards from goal, but Nick Rimando made a great reaction save. So instead, the All-Stars scored the second goal. Kaka got the assist with his hard, low cross turned in by David Villa.

After being denied again from close range, Kane had a bit more luck from further out. A slip by Matt Besler put him on a breakaway against Omar Gonzalez. Gonzalez did a decent job of keeping Kane in front of him, but couldn’t stop the Englishman from unleashing a 20-yard strike.

The second half was devoid of goals, but not action. Danny Rose made a terrific last-chance tackle to deny Fabian Castillo from getting on the end of a Kei Kamara cross. But in the midst of wholesale changes, the game became disjointed, and leaned slightly in Tottenham’s favor. David Ousted made the saves required of him (nothing as impressive as Rimando), and the All-Stars saw the result out.

It’s the twelfth time that the All-Star has pitted MLS against a foreign club opponent, and the league grabbed it’s eighth victory. During a halftime appearance on Fox Sports 1, Don Garber opined that it might be time for the league to return to the East-West format used in its early years.

“It’s an idea that probably makes sense,” he said. During the interview, he also mentioned that MLS has looked into utilizing instant replay for refereeing decisions, and gave an update on the various expansion bids. Pressed on the topic of corruption by Alexi Lalas, Garber was adamant that the league and Soccer United Marketing has clean hands.

Denver should never host the all star game again, what a boring atmosphere, unless they bring a giant European team or mexican and play at broncos stadium, in DOWNTOWN.
They should also try a non MLS market but they wont, and next year is san jose with their weird stadium that they love, wtf :-)
I would love for Seattle or Vancouver or DC, they deserve some love.
