Has it really been six years?

Before he was ever a part-owner with the Vancouver Whitecaps, NBA superstar Steve Nash has been bringing the basketball community together with some of soccer’s brightest worldwide stars in a unique eight-a-side charity match dubbed “Showdown in Chinatown.”

This year’s version will once again take place at 6:30pm on Wednesday, June 26th, at Sara D. Roosevelt Park on the Lower East Side (Chrystie Street between Stanton and Rivington).

The list of participants over the years reads as a virtual ‘who’s who’ of sports and entertainment. Thierry Henry, Claudio Reyna, Tony Parker, Adrian Mutu, Grant Hill, Ivan Cordoba, Baron Davis, Javier Zanetti, Jared Dudley, Ryan Babel, Maurice Edu, Brandon Jennings, Salomon Kalou, Simone Sandri, Danny Green, Demba Ba, Jimmy Conrad, Mike Dunleavy, John and Martin Nash, Mathieu Flamini, Alessandro Noselli, Charlie Ludi, Elton Brand, Emmerson Boyce, Edgar Davids, Marcin Gortat, Stu Holden, Marc Stein, Patrick Vieira, Robbie Rogers, Chris Bosh, Giuseppe Rossi and Jozy Altidore are just some of the people who have joined in the action since 2007.

This year, New Jersey’s own Giuseppe Rossi returns to the tournament with newcomer and U.S. Men’s National Team player Sacha Klejstan and A.C. Milan’s Massimo Ambrosini.

EOS has been at every event since it’s inception. It is by far the most unique soccer event in the City. Here are highlights from the 2011 event:
