Sky Blue FC announced its team awards today, with Brittany Cameron as Most Valuable Player, Christie Rampone for Defender of the Year, and Sam Kerr as winner of the Golden Boot.

Cameron played every single match for Sky Blue FC this season, recording a league-high 87 saves, and averaging 4.35 saves per game. “Brittany became an excellent professional this year,” said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. “She provided leadership when Christie was away, and her play really kept us in games when we went through a stretch where we struggled offensively. Along with the defenders in front of her, Brittany stepped up for our team when we needed her. She had some huge moments this season and performed very consistently all year.”

Rampone, who was with the USWNT for the World Cup, played 11 matches for Sky Blue FC and served an important role as Sky Blue’s team captain. Gabarra shared his thoughts on Rampone’s value to the team; “Christie is a perfect model of consistency. After the World Cup, she did not miss a step when she returned to our club. She added a significant level of leadership, particularly with directing our back line, and that is something she does so well that it tends to go unnoticed. Everyone truly respects Christie and values what she brings to the field because she possesses so many different intangibles.”

Kerr, a member of the Australian WNT, joined Sky Blue from the Western New York Flash upon returning from the World Cup. She scored six goals, including the game-winning solo goal in her first match with the team, and notched two assists in nine games with Sky Blue. “Sam was a vital part of our club this season, and her play and personality greatly contributed to our success,” Gabarra shared.
