Final Thoughts: New York Cosmos 1-0 Fort Lauderdale Strikers

A record crowd at Lockhart Stadium greeted Raul and the New York Cosmos in Florida this weekend, and were treated to an entertaining match — despite certain disappointments on the field.

Yes, the much ballyhooed arrival of the Real Madrid legend fell short of expectations, and yes, the home side lost. However, both the visiting Cosmos and the home-side Strikers could walk away from this weekend’s action with plenty of optimism moving into the 2015 season.

Meanwhile, New York fans got a taste of their new look team, and there were plenty of things to like — despite a lackluster performance from the Cosmos’ big money signing.

Here is a final look at this weekend’s match:

Just curious, i see alot of bloggers claiming Raul fell short of expectations or disappointed..my question is what the hell where you all expecting?? He was good in possession and passing the ball, got into decent positions in his withdrawn role and linked up with his teammates often…nearly got to the end of a cross to score.

You all do realize this is a 37 year old Raul, right?

I think that Moffat was a great addition to the team, I wish he started, the dynamic changed a bit when he came on.
