Three From Sky Blue Going to Spain With U23 Team

Erica Skroski  will miss her first game this year with a bone bruise

Three Sky Blue defenders have been named to the United States U23 women’s team that is scheduled to play three matches in Spain in early March.

Second-year defender Erica Skroski, and the draft picks Kayla Mills and Mandy Freeman were named to the 22-player roster.

The U.S. travels to Spain on Saturday with matches set against the U23 teams from Japan (March 2), England (March 4) and Norway (March 7).

The squad selected by Seattle Reign Coach Laura Harvey features 17 professionals (16 from the National Women’s Soccer League and one currently playing in Iceland), four collegiate players and the high school senior in Ashley Sanchez. Three of the players represented the U.S. at the 2016 FIFA U-0 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea — Rutgers University goalkeeper Casey Murphy, midfielder Emily Ogle and Sanchez, who became the first U.S. player to score in a U17 and U20 Women’s World Cup in the same cycle.

After the trip to La Manga, the the U23 women will play in the Thorns Spring Invitational from March 26-April 1 in Portland. The U.S. will play three NWSL teams at Providence Park: the Houston Dash (March 26, 2:30 p.m. Eastern), the Portland Thorns (March 29, 10:30 p.m. Eastern) and then the Chicago Red Stars (April 1 at 8 p.m. Eastern).
