Ned Grabavoy is going from the bottom half of the Eastern Conference to the top of the MLS mountain.

According to a report from Goal.com, the reigning MLS Cup champions Portland Timbers are set to sign the former New York City FC midfielder.

Grabavoy, 32, made 26 appearances last season for NYCFC, recording two goals and three assists. A hand-picked player from fellow Real Salt Lake alumn Jason Kreis, Grabavoy began the season playing in central midfield but moved to left wing towards the tale end of the year. However, unlike his stay at Salt Lake, Grabavoy failed to find a consistent place for himself within the confines of NYCFC.

New York City declined his contract option in December and the midfielder opted to file for free agency after meeting the qualifications set in the collective bargaining agreement between MLS and the MLS Players Union. That gave him the freedom to find a new home, and the Timbers look ready to provide him with one.

Portland are also reportedly set to sign free agent defender Zarek Valentin after acquiring his MLS rights from the Montreal Impact. Valentin most recently played for FK Bodø/Glimt.
