Tournament of Nations: U.S. Falls to Australia

US logoThe United States women’s national team opened play in the 2017 Tournament of Nations with a 1-0 loss to Australia at CenturyLink Field in Seattle on Thursday night.

Tameka Butt scored the game’s only goal, in the 67th minute, to give the Matildas their first victory over the U.S.

In the other match of the tournament’s opening doubleheader, Camila scored in the 87th minute as Brazil earned a 1-1 tied with Japan after Yuka Momiki had given them a second half lead.

The U.S. now has to regroup and hope to rebound for its match against Brazil in San Diego on Sunday in the second of the tournament’s three doubleheaders.
